I spoke with a friend recently who told me the Masters in Social Work was a better idea since you can do counseling plus other things. Is this true? Why would anyone want to become strictly a counselor then if they were able to do both? I would like to hear knowledgeable answers as this decision is looming as graduation is just around the corner! My bachelors degree is going to be in psychology with a minor in business administration.

i think you go for the masters in social work because First, the public has more familiarity with it; most people have heard of a social worker and have a general understanding of the MSW degree. Secondly, you can be credentialed/licensed in all states with it. Thirdly, insurance companies have no qualms about reimbursements for social work degree in masters.. If you go for counseling, be sure to check the requirements for independent practice in your state as your degree may or may not prepare you. However, a masters in counseling can allow you to do much the same as an masters in social work.OK after completing your bachelors degree you should take right step in a proper way.

Having had 200 hours of Dianetic auditing I find it the best form of counseling ever offered anywhere. What is very true about mental difficulties is that once the auditor discovers the "force of an event or decision" is encountered with the guiding of the auditor it is completely released once the event(s) or decision(s) is/are reviewed. The joy that erupts when the audited person achieves RELEASE is an incredible experience to watch or participate in! Try learning to audit others. Psychology doesn't accomplish anything near the happiness obtained in ridding the mind of the effects of former events and decisions!

Many states will not grant a license to someone with a masters in counseling, but with the msw (after meeting the requirments) you can take the licensing exam. Agencies often want someone with the msw who is licensed to be able to join insurance panels. Also, at least in florida, for work at assisted living facilities, the msw is preferred due to medicare reimbursements. Meditator
