What are the requirements I need in order to earn a masters degree in Social Work

What are the requirements I need in order to earn a masters degree in Social Work?
I know the best way is to probably major in psychology and sociology and get my masters in Social Work, but I want to know if this is the best way. Also, I live in a small town in Indiana and would like to remain here to pursue Social Work, but is that also the right idea? On average I would like to make about 60-70 thousand a year.

An NVQ level 3 in health and social care, and two A levels either in science and english and maybe maths.

The absolute best course of action to obtain a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) is to first get your Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW). If you major in Sociology or Psychology, you will end of having to take all the undergraduate level Social Work classes as a graduate student. It will take you an additional 1-2 years depending on how many courses you take per semester. Some colleges offer part of their social work programs online, but in order to get a BSW or MSW, you are going to need to attend a 4 year college or university. There's really no way around it. You will also have to complete two internships in your course of studies. Make sure that the social work program that you attend has been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. This is extremely important as the majority of jobs require this. As for salary, there are very few social work jobs that will pay what you are looking for even with a Master's Degree. Even those in administration often times do not make that much. You will have to have worked many many years in the field before you can expect that type of salary and many never acheive it. Good luck to you. I hope I answered some of your questions.

Anna3 has no clue what she's talking about. Most MSW programs will accept people with any bachelor's degree to promote diversity in the school. You may have to take a class or two as a prerequisite - I took statistics and a research class, and my undergrad was in political science. I am in the IUPUI program and despite what the ill-informed "anna3" seems to think, you do NOT have to take social work courses since you don't have a bsw in social work. The faculty here have devised an intensive 8 session "immersion" course, then you start your normal classes. After receiving the MSW and getting your license, your compensation depends on you. Some people work for the state, some in private practice, some in research/teaching, others in hospitals. Most are moved up to supervisory or management positions very quickly. You will make good money, as starting salary is around 40k. It goes up from there, and there are many ways to do more side work if you want. Please, pay no attention to the childish, ill-informed people who think they'll be making 6 figures their first year out of an MBA program. That's not going to happen, and it's not an honorable goal to begin with. Social work changes you for the better, and allows you the empowerment to really help other people in your area of practice. Money is a part of it, but it has heart and is about more than the greed and pursuit of money. Also, there are many loan-forgiveness programs for students after graduation. Check out the IUPUI MSW program.
