A part of the answer to this depends a bit on what in social work you want to focus on. For example if you are interested in ego-based psychothearapy I would suggest smith college, if you are interested in progressive social work I would suggest University of VT or Portland State. If you are looking at administration and policy I would look at University of Chicago and Berkley. Now if you are interested in top rated schools (which are often about the quality of faculty productivity. Then University of Washington, Washington University, Berkley, Columbia often rise to the top. Columbia often has a strong rep because of its age and being the only IVY. In general programs connected to research one schools (those that grant PhD's) will be better than those in traditionally undergrad programs.

If I don't get my Master of Social Work and only get a BA, will I still have a chance of getting a job
If I don't get my Master of Social Work and only get a BA, will I still have a chance of getting a job?
I'm currently at a community college completing my general education. I plan on transferring to Sacramento State. Would I still be likely to get a job in Social Work without getting a Masters to become a licensed social worker and only having a Bachelors?

Yes. You can get a job. Social service agencies will hire you -- but be prepared. . . these jobs pay NO money. You will problably need social assistance if you work at one of these agencies. Good Luck to you.

Yes you can get a job and license with a bachelors...i am currently going for mine...however, your sallary would probably increase with a masters. My professor informed me that a few of her colegues are actually running agencies with a bachelors degree. When you go for your bachelors you will have to complete a lengthy intership...which will give you experience in the field. Hope my answer helped

I have just retired from being a Social Worker with only a BA. I worke 20 years with Public Aid and 15 years in Child Welfare for Catholic Charities. It is a worth while profession. But take my advise and get your Masters and become licensed. Now all agencies are asking for Masters in the entry positions and the pay is minimal. You will be in a much better position if you have that MA after your name.

It really depends on where you are. I'm in a state where we license Bachelor's social workers. I get a really good paycheck with my license and 7 yrs experience under my belt. I might make more money with a masters but there aren't any fields that I want to work in that I need a masters.

Of course you will be able to get a job (provided you are a good social worker) - and of course having an MSW will open more options, better paying jobs, supervisory and administrative positions, etc. There are only a few states that actually "license" BSW's (some certify and some do nothing) and the BSW "license" is different than an MSW license and very different than the LCSW (a clinical license). You need to check with your state licensing board to find out the specific options in your state. DA

My sister got her master's in social work from the University of Chicago about 25 years ago and she's done several different things with it. She was a Dean of Freshman at Barnard College Sister school to Columbia University, She's been Deputy director of Client Services to the H.E.L.P. organization which was started by Andrew Coumo to help homeless families. She worked there for over 14 years. She's now doing the same thing for another organization called Bailey House that helps people with HIV get services and housing. She also teaches a class at the school for Education at Brooklyn College. She makes over 90 thousand a year at her job at Bailey House and about half that teaching. You have to decide what type of social work that you want to do. My sister is a Administrative Social Worker, but there are other's who do clinical work and therapy. It will take about 2 to three years after undergrad work including the time that you will have to spend doing you internships and working with the population that you want to work with. It's up to you to decide if you really want to help people and if the time and effort is worth it.

The MSW is the most versatile degree in the human services. You can do everything from therapy, to policy, to administration, to community organizing. You can work with any population from individuals, to families, groups, communities, and organizations. You can work with populations such as adults, adol. children, couples. You can work with issues from mental illness, to homelessness, to poverty, to racism, to domestic violence and more. Most MSW programs are about 60 unites (which generally takes 2 years full time). There are part time options that range from 3-4 years. DA

The Internet is a wonderful invention. If you take your subject of your question and add to what you want to know about it, the search engine will do the rest. For example: My subject is Teaching. I want to know where to get certified. The search engine result is as follows: Teaching + state certification requirements What you get is this: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=Teachin... This will work for any subject category. Give it a try and good luck.
