Which of these Social Work areas of specialization are best?
I'm applying to the Master of Social Work program at my university next year and it offers five areas of specialization: 1) children and their families; 2) mental health and health; 3) diversity and social justice; 4) gerontology; and 5) social service administration. Which of these areas is most in demand and/or offers the best pay?

You can't go wrong with gerontology. The aging of the birth cohorts born between 1945 and 1965 (the "baby boom" cohorts) will be the most significant factor increasing the demand for long-term care and supportive services over the next half century. The number of persons aged 85 and over is projected to increase five-fold by 2050. If recent trends continue, experts predict that the number of persons requiring long-term care services (i.e., skilled nursing care, alternative residential care, or home and community-based care) could increase from approximately 8 million to 19 million in 2050 This will no doubt increase demand for long-term care workers, in general, and for professional social workers specifically, because they provide critical services such as care coordination, case management, mental health services and supports, government program eligibility determination, care giving support and counseling.

I have a master's degree in social work, but is making about twelve dollars per hour
I have a master's degree in social work, but is making about twelve dollars per hour.?
I have a master's degree in social work, but is making twelve dollars per hour. I decided to start out entry level, and work my way up. I had a difficult time finding the right place of social work, and I finally did. But is there anything wrong with working your way up, even though you have a degree?

No, nothing wrong with it, but sounds like your getting screwed with pay. Im also a social worker, I work in a school, and get paid 25 bucks an hour with summers off- paid, and I just graduated last year. 12 bucks an hour sounds like a bachelors level position- you may look into if they are paying you based on your degree- they may have you on the wrong level because even entry level- thats too low. I know high schoolers making 10 bucks an hour without any degree at all.

What are the differences between getting a Master's degree in Social Work and one in Counselor Education
What are the differences between getting a Master's degree in Social Work and one in Counselor Education?
What are the differences between getting a Master's degree in Social Work and one in Counselor Education? I am looking at going to graduate school to become a therapist (preferably for children, adolescents and women) but I'm not sure which degree I would need, or which degree would be a better asset to the counseling/therapy field. Thanks in advance! :)

Definitely get a MSW. I am going to start on mine in the Fall. I am going to concentrate working with children, adolescents and women also. I think that the MSW is a more marketable degree than most. And there is a shortage of Social Workers. I am also planning on taking some courses for Art/Music Therapy. I like the flexibility of the MSW to be able to add those additional certifications. You might want to talk to someone who has a MSW and someone who has a Masters in Counselor Education to give you a better idea of which degree would be best for you. Also you might try talking to an advisor in those Graduate Programs at the college that you are planning to attend. Good Luck!

That's about all you can do with a sociology degree. And yes if you have your undergrad in Soc then you would get your masters in Soc too.
