I want to work with at-risk students should I get my master's in Social work or Counseling


I want to work with at-risk students should I get my master's in Social work or Counseling?
I have a Bachelor's in English and a teacher License. I currently teach high school I want to counsel high school students about drugs etc and not just about college.

Depending on the school and the degree, I believe you would find Counseling to be a better match for working with at-risk students - if you mean working as a Counselor in a mental health clinic or private provider office. If you mean working as a SCHOOL Counselor, the MSW would probably serve just as well - and some programs design their MSW degrees to meet the needs of School Counseling in particular.

Social work is counseling. You could get your BSW in social work then your MSW in children and family. With coical work, there are more job availabilities.
