What are the differences between getting a Master's degree in Social Work and one in Counselor Education? I am looking at going to graduate school to become a therapist (preferably for children, adolescents and women) but I'm not sure which degree I would need, or which degree would be a better asset to the counseling/therapy field. Thanks in advance! :)

Definitely get a MSW. I am going to start on mine in the Fall. I am going to concentrate working with children, adolescents and women also. I think that the MSW is a more marketable degree than most. And there is a shortage of Social Workers. I am also planning on taking some courses for Art/Music Therapy. I like the flexibility of the MSW to be able to add those additional certifications. You might want to talk to someone who has a MSW and someone who has a Masters in Counselor Education to give you a better idea of which degree would be best for you. Also you might try talking to an advisor in those Graduate Programs at the college that you are planning to attend. Good Luck!
